This website aspires to be a beautiful and interactive resource for skeptics and believers alike to explore some of the more negative aspects of holy books. It was heavily inspired by the Reason Project’s poster of biblical contradictions, which in turn was inspired by Chris Harrison’s Bible Visualizations.

En plus des contradictions, vous trouverez une étude quantitative de la misogynie, des propos anti-homosexualité, de la violence et les absurdités scientifiques. Le Tryangle a d’ores et déjà contacté son créateur pour obtenir de plus amples informations. A suivre.

I spent about a week on the project so far, but plan to continue making small changes (e.g. I just added a button to filter the contradictions chart by book last night). I am the only one working on it, but I use data from the Skeptic’s Annotated Bible project, where Steve Wells took the time to compile huge lists of data that I’m using for the basis of my charts. His work took a lot of time and effort to compile.

I recently had a religious debate with family about literal interpretation in the Bible and how it affects public policy, in particular public school science programs. It was frustrating enough that I joked about making « a better version of that contradictions poster » and a friend of mine encouraged me to try. I really want to make it dead easy to understand that a literal interpretation of the Bible is a bad idea, not only for moral reasons (misogyny, cruelty, homophobia) but also for practical reasons like public policy, which makes little sense with so many contradictions. I hope that this projects helps to prevent some people from using the Bible as a crutch to hold up their hateful, hurtful beliefs and instead focus on reasonable ways of making the world a better place.

I’m originally from Germany but live in the U.S. now (luckily on the west coast far from the « Bible belt » but even out here isn’t immune to ridiculous beliefs.

As for my personal beliefs, I’d rather have the focus on the visualizations and information on BibViz than on myself. Who I am and what I believe isn’t really that important. I will say, however, that I’m essentially a secular humanist and follow the tenets here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secular_humanism#Council_for_Secular_Humanism

Merci à lui.
